Project title: Effect of submicroscopic plasmodium infection during pregnancy on maternal and fetal outcomes.

Biography:

Mbumba Lupaka Dieu merci is a medical doctor in the University Clinics of Kisangani Department of Internal Medicine and he is a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the University of Kisangani. He previously worked with the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières in various emergency response missions against malaria and measles outbreaks. He has a Medical degree obtained at the University of Kisangani in DRC in 2015 and an MSc degree in Medical Parasitology obtained at Jimma University in Ethiopia in 2023. He is a collaborator of the Global Burden of Disease Network and he is a clinical group member of the American Committee on Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers' Health. He is an author of one publication and co-author of eight publications. He was the recipient of the prestigious distinction for best oral presentation at the Malaria Science Day 2023 conference held in Kisangani in the DRC. Currently, within the MARCAD Plus program, he benefits from a PhD fellowship at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) allowing him to maintain the same objectives as those working on the elimination of malaria. His current research focuses on the effect of submicroscopic plasmodium infection during pregnancy on maternal and fetal outcomes. His objective is to understand the contribution of submicroscopic malaria infection during pregnancy to maternal anemia, low birth weight, and other adverse pregnancy outcomes.
