FELLOWSHIPS

Koba Privat AGNIWO

Host institution : Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC)/USTTB, Mali

Project title: Toward understanding of genomic factors influencing praziquantel efficacy decline in Mali.

Biography:

Dr Koba Privat AGNIWO is a young researcher from Benin. He holds a diploma in biomedical analysis and a master's degree in immunology and cell biology from the University of Abomey Calavi, Benin. Dr Agniwo started his research career in 2018 as a PhD student in parasitology at Ecole Doctoral des Sciences et Techniques du Mali (EDSTM) funded by the Malian government. His research first focused on neglected tropical disease (NTD), schistosomiasis. In strong collaboration with the IHPE in Perpignan (France), he contributed to the characterization of hybridization between schistosomes of the haematobium group in Mali (West Africa). Dr Agniwo is based in Mali, he is currently working in the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC) team to elucidate and implement effective control of NTDs (Schistosomiasis), with several publications to his credit. His hobbies include soccer and travelling. Dr Agniwo recently set up an optimal ex-vivo culture platform for schistosomes of the haematobium group using field isolates to enable rapid evaluation of new drug candidates as part of a project funded by the Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases (COR-NTD). Thus, Dr Agniwo contributed to understanding schistosomiasis disease biology toward discovery of new treatment tools. Currently, Dr Agniwo is undertaking a MARCAD (Malaria Research Capacity Development in West and Central Africa) Plus program postdoctoral fellowship. The main focus of the MARCAD Plus postdoctoral fellowship project going to be better understand the genomic factors influencing Praziquantel efficacy decline in the field.
