Project title: Molecular characteristics of antimalaria drug-resistant genes in Plasmodium falciparum in Sierra Leone
Biography:
Julian Sydney Olufemi Campbell holds a MSc in Molecular Biology and Genomics from The Africa Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), Redeemer’s University, Ede, Nigeria which focused on Prevalence and Molecular Characterisation of HIV-HBV Co-infection in Patients from Western Area, Sierra Leone. He sought to characterize the genome of HIV and HBV to identify mutations in the genome. Malaria Research Capacity Development in West and Central Africa (MARCAD) granted Mr. Campbell with a Doctoral Fellowship to conduct his research on the ‘Molecular characteristics of antimalaria drug resistant genes in Plasmodium falciparum in Sierra Leone’. The main goal of the research to investigate the molecular characterizations of drug–resistance genes in Plasmodium falciparum. Mr. Campbell is dedicated and enthusiastic about research, always wanting to seek more knowledge and understanding in the field of laboratory medicine.
