Project title: Measuring the impact of mass vaccination with R21- Matrix M using serological metrics.
Biography:
Dr Diniba Edgard Dabira holds a Medical degree from University of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, an MSc from the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp and a PhD from University of Antwerp, Belgium. He has extensive research experience in sub-Saharan Africa including in Burkina Faso and The Gambia and has authored several scientific articles published in reputable journals with high impact factor. Dr Diniba is currently based in The Gambia working as a Clinical Epidemiologist for MRCG at LSHTM. He is a strong advocate of Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI), which he promotes and deliver in his workplace.
His research work aims to improve the current understanding on how innovative interventions such as mass interventions with drugs or vaccines can accelerate interruption of malaria transmission and support elimination efforts.
Dr Diniba Edgard was recently awarded MARCAD Plus Postdoctoral fellowship. This fellowship offers him an opportunity to determine the impact of mass vaccination with the newly recommended malaria vaccine R21/Matrix M using serological metrics. This study will provide rich and accurate information on the changes in malaria exposure following mass vaccination. These vital data will help the malaria community to understand the role and importance of serological metrics and improve our knowledge of such tools for malaria elimination efforts.
Besides his research activities, Dr Diniba participates in teaching including the Introductory Course in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics (ICEMS) organized by the MRCG at LSHTM and dedicate part of my time to medical consultations.
