Women must be better represented in science, it’s MARCAD and all the participants at the second Global Forum on Women in Scientific Research (GoFoWiSeR) conviction. An idea sustained during the meeting organized by the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) from 18 to 19 July 2019 in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.
There is no longer need to demonstrate the low representation of women in the research area according to the participants present at this forum.
Women represent less than 30% of the world wide research area and in Senegal, where the meeting was hosted, "women represent only 10% of the researchers" said Professor Ndèye Coumba Touré Kane, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of Senegal.
The GoFoWiSeR meeting aims to change that situation by catalyzing connections and strengthening networkings among scientists women in order to improve their experiences and significantly increase the percentage of the numberof women in science.
A goal shared by the MARCAD programme, which has expressed its support for this great initiative through the participation of all its women scientists fellows and masters supported within the programme, in the various activities held during the two-day conference, which brought together female researchers, research leaders, heads of institutions and research funders.
MARCAD's women scientists took part in discussions and exchanges of ideas, held during the meeting about the strategies and approaches that can improve the representation of women in the numbers and experiences of women in science.
