All malaria activities undertaken by staff at LSHTM are conducted under the umbrella of The Malaria Centre. Established in 1998 to facilitate interdisciplinary research at the School, the Malaria Centre supports and promote links with research in malaria endemic countries bringing together as many as 200 researchers, postgraduate students and support staff from all 3 faculties in LSHTM (the Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases; the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health; and the Faculty of Public Health and Policy). The Centre has a major international profile with members working in around 40 countries at any one time.

Members work in a broad range of malaria research areas:  clinical trials, drug development & resistance, epidemiology, immunology & vaccination, parasite biology, social & economic studies and vector control. There is strong emphasis on translating research outcomes into practice and research capacity strengthening of both individuals and institutions. The ultimate aim of this work is to provide best evidence for policy and practice in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of malaria around the world.
There are currently research projects ongoing in 15 West and Central African countries; further information on these projects can be found by visiting the Malaria Centre website:  http://malaria.lshtm.ac.uk
