The Department of Parasitology (DP) at UCAD which leads the MARCAD programme is under the Faculty of Medicine which is the oldest and largest faculty in Senegal and the first Francophone University in Africa.

The DP at UCAD has specialised laboratories on campus and field sites including microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, data management.
The DP coordinates the PhD and Post doc programme in malaria and infectious diseases at the Doctoral School of Health and Life Sciences.  Research activities are undertaken in UCAD’s laboratories and in sentinels’ sites, including three Health Demographic Surveillance Systems (HDSSs) in rural areas.
UCAD is conducting research on several strategies for malaria elimination, such as  interventions aiming at interrupting transmission including mass screening and treatment, focal screening and treatment, seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), primaquine safety and efficacy studies, Monitoring resistance & Molecular markers studies,  Impact of resistance on the effectiveness of vector control strategies, evaluation of innovative diagnostic tools, malaria and comorbidities such as Neglected Tropical diseases, assessing impact of control strategies, social and economic studies. UCAD has a strong track record of translating research into policy with ongoing engagement with policy makers; this will continue for the new programme.
