The MARCAD Plus Programme Manager, Ekoué Kouevidjin, and Communication Officer, Kodou Sene, attended the DELTAS-Africa II Research Management and Communications Workshop, held from March 10–13, 2025, in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Organized by the Science for Africa Foundation in collaboration with the University of Zimbabwe's African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI) Project, the workshop aimed to enhance research visibility, improve science communication, and strengthen research management systems across the various DELTAS-Africa II programs.
In his opening remarks, Tom Kariuki, Chief Executive Officer of the Science for Africa Foundation (SFA Foundation), welcomed representatives from Wellcome Trust and FCDO, Yolisa Nalule and Maryanne Kuria, as well as all the participants of the training.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing science communication and research management within the DELTAS-Africa II initiative.
“I hope this meeting aligns our efforts, allows us to work closely together, develop evolving agendas, adapt to existing geopolitics, and position DELTAS Africa, and other initiatives you may be involved in to address new challenges, respond to emerging opportunities, and maximize the impact of our collective work,” said the CEO of SFA Foundation.
The workshop brought together communication and research management experts from 14 African consortia supported by DELTAS-Africa II. Through interactive sessions, participants explored strategies to amplify the impact of African-led research.
The four-day training featured a dynamic program, including sessions on storytelling and science communication, community and public engagement (CPE), and research management capacity building. Participants benefited from hands-on training, discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions designed to enhance their skills and effectiveness in research communication and management.
