Dr Ousmane Sy’s project titled ‘’ Structuration génétique des populations d’Anopheles melas de la région sénégambienne ‘’ << Genetic structuring of Anopheles melas populations across the Senegambian region >> has been selected for funding as part of the Science and Language Mobility Scheme Africa (SLM) grant a five-year programme led by the Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA).

MARCAD Fellows at the 67th Annual Meeting of ASTMH in New-Orleans October 28th-November 1st 2018, USA

MARCAD Post-Doc and PhD Fellows participated at the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) 67th Annual Meeting held in Oct. 28-Nov. 1 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. They presented their research to the public and got a major interest from the participants of the ASTMH Meeting.

Dr Aminatou Kone is one of the post-doctoral fellows who attended to this meeting. She shared her experience as a young African scientist.

Great interest for the MARCAD program at the Centenary of the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Odontology (FMPO) of the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar (UCAD)

Dakar, the capital of Senegal, was from 1 to 5th December 2018, the rallying point for scientists from Africa and around the world, on the occasion of the simultaneous celebration of the Centenary of the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Odontology (FMPO) of the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar (UCAD) and the "Homecoming-Delsi naniu_ Return of the old to the UCAD".

Congratulations to the MARCAD postdoctoral Fellow Benoit Assogba awarded as one of the five top young African scientists to tackle infectious diseases prevalent on the continent.

MARCAD postdoctoral Fellow Benoit Assogba has been awarded training fellowships of The Crick African Network (CAN) as one of the five top young African scientists to tackle infectious diseases prevalent on the continent.
Benoît completed his Biochemistry MPhil at the University of Abomey Calavi, in Benin. Having developed an interest in mosquitoes as the insect ‘vector’ that carries malaria, he then joined the Entomological Research Centre of the Minister of Health as a Research Intern in 2007. There, he pursued his interest in vector biology and control, completing his masters and PhD.
He joined the MRC Unit the Gambia at LSHTM through Malaria Research Capacity Development (MARCAD) in 2017 for his first postdoctoral fellowship.
As a MARCAD program Fellow, Benoît works on ``Mass swarm trapping as malaria vector control strategy in Gambia´´.
The African Career Accelerator Awards, which were launched earlier this year, are designed to help early-career researchers make the transition to leading their own research groups in Africa.
The first cohort of CAN fellows will start to arrive at the Crick in the new year for training under the mentorship of group leaders with extensive experience researching diseases including HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria.
