MARCAD at PAMCA 6th Annual Conference

MARCAD PhD fellow, Oumou Kalsom Gueye and Postdoctoral fellow Dr. Kevin Opondo participated in the activities organized within the 6th Annual Conference of the Pan-African Mosquito Control Association (PAMCA) in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on September 2019.

Oumou Kalsom Gueye took part in the Women in Vector Control Workshop (WIVC) held as the prelude to the PAMCA conference.

The workshop objectives were to conduct a situation gap analysis of women participation in the control of VBDs, to develop practical tools that enable visibility of women in vector control in Africa, and to develop a structured programme for strengthening the capacity of WIVC in Africa.

According to Oumou, the workshop was an important moment of learning and thinking about the next step in her scientific career.

"As a woman scientist, the Women in Vector Control Workshop reinforced my desire to become even more involved in research. We learned about leadership, mentorship... and especially how to overcome the barriers that prevent women from establishing themselves in the scientific research community.

MARCAD UCAD/Secrtariat Visits UHAS

   
The UCAD/secretariat team of the Malaria Research Capacity Development in West and Central Africa (MARCAD) paid a 3 day visit to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Ho, specifically to the School of Medicine, Ho from Tuesday, September 24, 2019 to Thursday, September 26, 2019.
The purpose of the visit was to meet the MARCAD-UHAS fellows, financial staff and to discuss about their works and also to promote collaboration with the University.

MARCAD women scientists participate in GoFoWiSeR's reflections on how to increase the number of women in Science

Women must be better represented in science, it’s MARCAD and all the participants at the second Global Forum on Women in Scientific Research (GoFoWiSeR) conviction. An idea sustained during the  meeting organized by the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) from 18 to 19 July 2019 in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.

There is no longer need to demonstrate the low representation of women in the research area according to the participants present at this forum.

Women represent less than 30% of the world wide research area and in Senegal, where the meeting was hosted, "women represent only 10% of the researchers" said Professor Ndèye Coumba Touré Kane, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of Senegal.

Fellows, Steering Committee, Research Committee and Expert Advisory Board meeting 2019

MARCAD Steering Committee, Research Committee and Expert Advisory Board met the PhD and Posdoctoral fellows for an experience sharing, orientation and recommendations meeting on 15 and 16 July 2019 on the sidelines of the DELTAS Africa scientific conference held in Dakar, Senegal.

The meeting was hosted by the MARCAD/ UCAD Secretariat.

In his welcome speech to the attendees, Prof Oumar Gaye, Director  of the Malaria Research Capacity Development in West and Central Africa Director, expressed the importance of the research in  malaria elimination in Africa,  area  where MARCAD fellows are playing a major role through their research results, presented at  the conference during  oral and posters presentation sessions.

MARCAD hosts the DELTAS Africa Scientific Conference 2019

Through the MARCAD programme coordinated by Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), Senegal, hosted for the first time, in an african French-speaking country, the scientific conference of the DELTAS Africa programme of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) 2019 in Dakar.

Some 300 participants, mostly health scientists from Africa and around the world attended the DELTAS Africa 2019 scientific conference.

"The DELTAS Africa programme fits perfectly with our goals of excellence in the areas of science, health and future scientific leaders training’’ said Prof Abdoulaye Samb, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine UCAD and Vice-Chancellor of UCAD in his speech.

The Vice-Chancellor also praised the various efforts made in this regard by the University's doctoral schools, giving MARCAD as an illustrious example.
