The UCAD/secretariat team of the Malaria Research Capacity Development in West and Central Africa (MARCAD) paid a 3 day visit to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Ho, specifically to the School of Medicine, Ho from Tuesday, September 24, 2019 to Thursday, September 26, 2019.
The purpose of the visit was to meet the MARCAD-UHAS fellows, financial staff and to discuss about their works and also to promote collaboration with the University.
The MARCAD UCAD/Secretariat team was led by Dr. Magatte Ndiaye (Head of the mission); Ekoue Kouevidjin (Programme Manager) ; Kodou Sene (Communication Officer) ; Michel Ndong, Penda Toure and Ousmane Gaye (Financial Team).
Dr. Sena C. Kpeglo, the UHAS Registrar, who received the team on behalf of UHAS, appreciated the efforts of MARCAD for their role in engaging policymakers and the communities on the issue of research for the fight against malaria.
"... everybody knows about MARCAD in our university. MARCAD project helps us a lot in term of networking and staff capacity building. Our institution has really benefited from the MARCAD" said Dr. Sena C. Kpeglo.
She said, UHAS will be glad to foster any form of collaboration with MARCAD.
MARCAD has three (3) research fellows in UHAS, namely, Dr. Matilda Aberese-Ako (Institute of Health Research); Dr. Gifty Dufie Ampofo (School of Medicine) and Virtue Fiawokome De-Gaulle (PhD Fellow at UHAS-SOM).
MARCAD has an objective to strengthen the quality of research through the training of young African researchers at PhD and Post-docs levels who will be able to address the new challenges with malaria elimination. The program also aims among others at encouraging women to become more interested in research; to contribute to gender equality in the scientific research community in Africa, and to encourage collaboration in malaria research between African Universities.
